LUNA, Apayao – The provincial government, led by Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr., will launch a provincewide Fruit Tree Farming Program at the end of the year.
This program will commence with the planting of the first batch of 2,000 seedlings of different fruit trees which are expected to be delivered to Kabugao in the next two weeks.
Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. sought the guidance of former Secretary of Agriculture Manny Piñol for the implementation of the said initiative especially in the mountainous areas of the province.
The former secretary, meantime, said that Governor Bulut’s call was great news to him, not only since he will be supplying him with the seedlings from his nursery but mainly because he feels he is succeeding in his advocacy to convince local government units to adopt tree farming.
Bulut’s move has been inspired by the successful Plant-Now-Pay-Later Program, which was institutionalized in North Cotabato, aimed at providing farmers with fruit tree seedlings on a long term, interest- free loan.
With his leadership, Apayao is poised to benefit from increased agricultural productivity and economic opportunities. This initiative not only promotes sustainable farming practices but also contributes to the province’s overall development. By Loremia Pareja
