LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Rep. Eric Yap announced that the construction of the Olympic-sized swimming pool within the Wangal Sports Complex will commence anytime to complete the sports frailties that are within the said center.
Yap disclosed that the initial funds for the swimming pool project had already been incorporated in the annual budget of the national government where the same will be ready for implemented following the public bidding that was conducted to ascertain the qualified contractor to implement the project.
Aside from the put of the swimming pool, he claimed that there will be additional bleachers that will be constructed around the Wangal Sports Complex to ensure that the viewing public can be accommodated when big sports events will be conducted within the province’s sports facility.
Earlier, Congressman Yap worked out the initial allocation of some P195 million which was used by the public works department to initially improve the closed gymnasium and the placement of the tartan track oval that paved the way for the province to have a world class sports complex.
At present, Benguet officials are simply awaiting when the newly rehabilitated closed gymnasium and the rubberized track oval will be formally inaugurated although the said faculties are already being used to host gatherings among other sports events hosted by the province.
The lawmaker envisions Benguet to host the conduct of prestigious local, regional, national or event international sports competitions once the appropriate sports facilities shall have been completed by the public works department which is in charge of the implementation of the funded projects.
According to him, there is a need to maximize the available spaces within the sports complex to construct the appropriate sports facilities to allow the completion of the same which will be instrumental in making Benguet one of the desired venues for various sports competitions primarily due to the presence of the state-of-the-art sports complex.
The land area currently occupied by the Wangal Sports Complex serves as the counterpart of the provincial government in the realization of the vision of Congressman Yap for Benguet to have its own sports center that is complete with state-of-the-art facilities.
The lawmaker urged the public works department to ensure that the sports facilities that had been and will be constructed will comply with the prescribed standards of the regulating sports associations to guarantee that Benguet will be able to host the conduct of various sports competitions needed in promoting the province as a sports haven in the future.
Congressman Yap and concerned sports officials are assessing what other sports facilities can still be constructed within the available land area of the Wangal Sports Complex to allow him to request the needed funds from the concerned government agencies for the realization of the said facilities needed by the sports enthusiasts.
