PUDTOL, Apayao – The Apayao State College (ASC) Women’s Volleyball Team secured the Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Colleges and Universities (CARASUC) Meet 2024 volleyball championship after defeating Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST) in three sets, 25-17, 25-19, and 25 – 18.
The first set saw both teams locked in a competitive exchange until a deadlock at 15 apiece that saw ASC seize momentum, finishing the set strongly with a 25-17 scoreline.
The same story in the second set, error piles as both teams were still finding their grove buried in championship jitters. ASIST found themselves with a little momentum at the start but struggled to stretch the gap while ASC kept adding pressure. Service aces proved to be the crucial factor in this set as it became the saving grace for the home team. ASC was able to capitalize on ASIST’s errors, using it to close out the second set with a late run, 25-19.
The third set was even tighter as ASIST fiercely contested ASC’s title bid, hoping for a reverse sweep. However, this was when Tiffany Villegas showed everyone why she is the Most Valuable Player of this tournament. Leading her team on both ends, Villegas carried ASC on her back en route to a 25-18 finish, sealing the match and giving ASC the elusive title.
This gold medal finish in volleyball has been added to the impressive outing of the entire school in this year’s CARASUC Athletic Meet. With this medal, ASC is bound to finish strong in the overall standing, securing their ranking as one of the contenders for the overall championship. By JCM
