TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Commission on Elections-Tabuk City and the Tabuk City Police Station (TCPS) are requesting the public’s cooperation with the implementation of COMELEC checkpoints during the election period from January 12 to June 11, 2025 to maintain peace and order in the run up to the 2025 National and Local Elections on May 12.
On January 12, COMELEC-Kalinga, COMELEC-Tabuk, TCPS, and other law enforcement agencies began the simultaneous activation of five COMELEC checkpoints in strategic areas in Tabuk, including Block 3, Bulanao; Brgy. Appas; Callagadao, Bulanao; and Talaca, Brgy. Agbannawag with one serving as a spot/movable checkpoint. Previously established regular checkpoints are also in place in FF Cruz, Brgy. San Juan, Brgy. Laya East, and Brgy. Lanna; while the Provincial and Regional PNP mobile forces will conduct checkpoints in Talaca and Spring,
Manned by a composite team of the KPPO, TCPS, SAF, Philippine Army, and the Highway Patrol Group; the checkpoints are necessary for the effective implementation of the gun ban and other prohibited activities in connection with the election.
For the safety and convenience of the public ,the TCPS is advising motorists approaching checkpoints to slow down, roll down their windows, dim their headlines, and turn on cabin light at night and courteously answer ordinary or routine questions that may be asked.
Under COMELEC Resolution No. 11067, officers are limited to visual search only. “No person may be subject to physical or body search in the absence of reasonable ground to believe that a person has just committed, is about to commit, or about to commit a crime,” the resolution states.
Moreover, the public cannot be compelled to open their car’s trunk, glove compartment, or any package contained therein. By Tabuk PIO
