LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Mayoralty candidate Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan denounced the alleged dis-information tactics being employed by some political quarters and their supporters that aim to confuse the town’s electorate and rally their support in their favor in the upcoming May 12, 2025 mid-term elections.
Awingan branded the several attempts to mislead the voters as a desperate and futile attempt to lure the electorate to shift their support to other political quarters by trying to discredit him and his party mates belonging to the Team Ulnos.
He claimed that the dis-information tactics unfairly aim to create doubts in the minds of the voters for them to lose trust on him and his party mates and shift their support to other political quarters in time for the upcoming May 12 election, which is against the norms of the community who still adhere to the practice of ‘inayan’ or the famous Cordilleran virtue of do no harm to others.
The vice-mayor narrated that there had been several instances where text messages were circulated among the town’s residents that there will be ‘ayuda’ to be distributed in the party’s general headquarters that caused people to flock to their campaign headquarters only to learn that there was none thereby making the people angry.
Further, Awingan pointed out that the circulated text messages also made it appear that he had a serious health problem, when in fact, he is doing well and is actively attending to all the gatherings organized for their political sorties and other personal engagements.
“We appeal to the people of La Trinidad to be vigilant on the grand design of some political quarters and their supporters to place us in a bad light through massive dis-information as what had already been done. We should first validate the veracity of the information we are getting from various sources before believing in them so that we will not be fooled about the real situation,” Awingan stressed.
According to him, the dis-information will surely be worse as the May 12 election nears that is why voters should be reminded to first check if the source of the information they are getting is reliable before coming out with conclusions to prevent them from being victimized by interest groups belonging to opposing parties.
Moreover, Awingan also challenged those people hiding in the guise of concerned citizens to come out in the open and openly discuss with him and his party mates the issues and concerns of the municipality through various fora and present to the electorate their respective platforms of government for a better discourse instead of making themselves anonymous and trying to peddle dis-information.
Awingan had been serving the municipality as a councilor, vice mayor and now wants to be given the mandate of the people as the next mayor of La Trinidad with the goal of bringing the town to greater heights through his visionary agenda. By Dexter A. See
