City officials expressed support to the establishment of the innovation hub or the regional training innovation center of the Cordillera in the city for the implementation of the project Supporting Innovation in the Philippine Technical and Vocational Education and Training system by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Under Resolution No. 273, series of 2023, local legislators stated that at present, the city hosts the TESDA Regional Training Center along Loakan road which adds up to the city’s reputation and recognition as the prime educational center and a Smart City of the north that offers a conducive environment for the learners.
Earlier, TESDA was established through the enactment of Republic Act (RA) 7796, otherwise known as the Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994.
Further, TESDA is primarily responsible for formulating continuing, coordinated and fully integrated technical education and skills development policies, plans and programs and for developing world class competence and workforce readiness of the Filipinos.
In its continuing efforts to achieve its mission, TESDA launched the project Supporting Innovation in the Philippine Technical and Vocational Education and Training which is the agency’s strategic thrust to achieve global competitiveness and workforce readiness and to attain social equity for workforce inclusion and poverty reduction for the Filipinos.
For the implementation of the project, the government embarked on the establishment of innovation centers in the different parts of the country to hone the skills, knowledge and attitude of learners and also to provide an environment where the learners can innovate, discover their full potential, and showcase their talents in their areas of specialization.
Aside from the established regional innovation center in Ilagan city, Isabela, the other three regional innovation centers are located in Cebu, Northern and Zamboanga Sibugay.
The council stipulated that the city government also expresses its willingness and formally filed its intent to host the construction of the innovation center hub or the regional training innovation center of the Cordillera.
Moreover, the body disclosed that the city government has an available lot suited for the center’s requirement and can provide such other requirements needed for the implementation of the project.
