BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio E-lions proved dominance over the volleyball court as both teams, men and women, claimed gold on the championship tilt against Benguet Stingers volleyball men and women at the Benguet Sports Complex Gym for the secondary division of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletics Association (CARAA) meet 2025.
The Baguio E-lions volleyball women won a streak, 3-0, against Benguet Stingers with a close match on the first set, 28-26, while they widened the gap of their scores on the remaining sets, 25-16 and 25-12.
“The strategy that we did is, sumali kami sa national tournaments, win man kami or matalo ang pinakamahalaga kasi is the exposure of the girls,” the Baguio E-lions women’s team coach, Sherry Ann Floresca said.
According to her, the maturity of the players made it possible for them to win the first set, which was a close match.
“That’s why, if crucial man iyong mga points, nandun iyong maturity. So kung mapapansin po natin lalo na sa first set, it’s true na lumamang iyong Benguet kasi naging crucial talaga because of the errors na na-commit ng team but then sabi ko nga noong nagtime-out kami, mas matured sila compared sa opponent team so ibigay na nila lahat, so unahan lang namin,” she added.
The game’s Most Valuable Player and the team captain, Angel Lou Ewis, from Baguio E-lions thanked their coaches, supporters, parents, and their school, the University of Cordillera (UC).
“I think iyong puso po, team, and mga disiplina po ng mga coaches namin kasi unang-una po, iyong sinasabi nila huwag magyayabang and always be humble at lumingon ka kung saan ka nanggagaling po,” she said when asked what their edge is compared to other teams.
Meanwhile, the Baguio E-lions volleyball men also won against Benguet Stingers, 4-1, taking home gold for the secondary division of the volleyball tournament.
