BAGUIO CITY – The local government and the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) lauded the initiative of the city’s Liga ng mga Barangay – Baguio City chapter for in mandating the one hundred twenty eights barangays to purchase the necessary fire extinguishers for installation in communal fire extinguisher appliance depots in strategic areas in the barangays.
Councilor Rocky M. Aliping informed the CPOC chaired by Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong that the concerned barangay officials had already been advised to facilitate the procurement of the needed fire extinguishers as part of their contribution to help in providing immediate and timely response to fire incidents in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
For his part, Magalong commended the barangays for taking the lead in purchasing the prescribed fire extinguishers following the signing of Resolution No. 147, series of 2025 principally authored by Councilor Aliping that made it mandatory for all the city’s barangays to have such fire extinguishers in communal areas as part of the consolidated efforts to contain fire incidents in the barangays.
Earlier, the city council passed Resolution No. 147, series of 2025 that mandated all the city’s barangays to include in their respective barangay risk reduction management budget the procurement of at least four 10 pound ABC-type fire extinguishers for installation in communal fire extinguisher appliance depots in strategic areas in their barangays.
The resolution stated that the said initiative will significantly empower barangay first responders by enabling them to swiftly extinguish fires and prevent further damage to properties.
Further, the strategically placed fire extinguishers will serve as the initial line of defense against fires, providing crucial first aid while awaiting the arrival of the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
According to the said resolution, barangay officials have to ensure the safety and preparedness of their communities in the event of emergencies, including fire-related incidents, thus, barangays are mandated to include in their respective BDRRM budgets the procurement of at least four 10-pound ABC-type fire extinguishers for installation in communal fire extinguisher appliance depots in strategic areas in their barangays.
City officials admitted that fire incidents can cause significant damage to property and pose serious threats to life and limb, thus, quick access to fire extinguishing equipment is crucial in preventing the spread of fires and minimizing damage.
It added that communal fire extinguisher appliance depots, strategically located within barangays, can provide timely and effective means to combat small fires before they escalate considering that the safety and security of the residents are of paramount importance where one of the pivotal programs of the Baguio City Fire Station is to actively engage and educate the citizens of the city about fire safety awareness.
