Baguio-Benguet student delegates tops North Luzon YMCA’s Regional Academic Olympics

BAGUIO CITY – Over 300 students, coaches, and advisers representing their respective schools and YMCA’s in the North Luzon Region convened at the YMCA of Baguio City on November 14-15, 2015, to compete in the 2015 North Luzon YMCA’s Regional Academic Olympics selection, for the upcoming National YMCA Academic Olympics on December 5-6, 2015 hosted by the YMCA of the Philippines in Manila.

With five YMCA’s of the seven situated in the North Luzon Region namely; the YMCA’s of Baguio City, Pangasinan, Olongapo City, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte(not in attendance) and La Union (not in attendance), the Tri-Level competition for Elementary, High School and College students in coordination with the Department of Education included the following events.

For elementary; Tula, Essay Writing, Bible Quiz(Team), Quiz Bee(Team), On-The-Spot Drawing, Vocal Solo, and Group Dance Competition. For High School and College; Oratorical Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, Essay Writing, On-The-Spot Drawing, Bible Quiz(Team), Quiz Bee(Team), Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet, and Group Dance Competition.

Evangelie Soriano, Gerlyn Puzon, Kayecee Guerrero, Amethyst Landicho Zoe Marie Mendoza (Pangasinan).

LEVEL WINNERS: Champion – YMCA of Olongapo City, 1st Runner Up – YMCA of Cagayan Valley, 2nd Runner Up – YMCA of Baguio City.

LEVEL Winners: Champion – Pangasinan YMCA, 1st runner up – YMCA of Baguio City, 2nd runner up – YMCA of Cagayan Valley.

 The Baguio City-Benguet representatives in the competition were also accompanied by their respective advisers/coaches as follows: Mr. Ide Liwanen (ECIES), Ms. Leonila D Bayla and Ms. Claudette Zamora (BPFLC), Ms. Emilita Sao-an and Ms. Joan Reyes (UCGSHS), Ms. Adelin Basali and Ms. Zenaida Kunayon (DAHBES), Ms. Lovella Espiritu (BERKELEY), Ms. Christine Dea YRA-Tamayo (UBLES) for the elementary level.

High School advisers/coaches were; Mr. Bobby Ray Atmosera and Ms. Rosalie Zapico (PSHS), Mr. Isagani Dumpayan (UBSHS), Ms. Mary Ann Poyaoan (BCNHS) and for College level; Capt. Ross Mar Villareal (PMA), Ms. Twinkle Navarette (UB) and Ms. Czarina Calinawagan of the UPCB.

The first place winners in all the events in each level will have the chance to represent the North Luzon Region YMCA’s in the National Competitions as above stated representing their respective schools and YMCA’s. Overall winners in this years’ Regional Academic Olympics are as follows: Champion – YMCA of the City of Baguio, Inc, 1st runner up – YMCA of Pangasinan, Inc., and 3rd runner up – YMCA of Cagayan Valley.

The awarding ceremonies was also graced by the North Luzon YMCA Regional Coordinator and Cagayan Valley YMCA General Secretary Doming Calonia, YMCA of Baguio President Engr. Rex L. Ludaes and the different General Secretaries of the YMCA’s in the north Luzon Region.
