BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital garnered the Purple Ribbon Award (first place) for its family planning program in the Provincial/ City category of the Department of Health’s (DOH) Gawad Kalusugan 2018 Awards for the Cordillera Administrative Region with a cash prize of P75,000 and plaque of recognition.
Baguio city also took the top spot in the Leprosy Free Initiatives and Best Performing Provincial/ City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit categories (P75,000 each and plaque of recognition) including the regional Red Orchid Award netting P40,000 and a plaque of recognition. Further, Baguio got third place in the Best Performing Barangay Health Workers Federation category with a P75,000 cash prize and plaque of recognition.
DOH Asst. Sec. Maria Francia Laxamana and DOH CAR Dir. Amelita Pangilinan handed the awards to city health services office program coordinators and representatives led by Drs. Celia Brillantes, MariaAlice Torres and Dandeo Halog during the Awarding Ceremonies on November 16 at Baguio Country Club. The awards were presented in Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall before local officials, employees and guests headed by Congressman Mark Go and Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
The city government and Baguio City Emergency Medical Services were also given recognition for their response during the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong and Rosita. A plaque of recognition and first aid kits were awarded.
The Atok Trail and Campo Filipino district health centers were each given P25,000 with plaque of recognition and token as the High Performing Health Facilities of the National Immunization Program “Todo Ligtas: Manigurado, Magpabakuna nang Kumpleto” while Baguio City Jail was given the Red Orchid Award with P15,000 and plaque of recognition.
