BAGUIO CITY – Local police personnel were able to successfully arrest some four hundred thirty nine violators of the city’s King of the road Ordinance from May 29 to June 10, 2025 following the intensified implementation of various traffic laws, rules and regulations under the Oplan Discipline, Respect, Infrastructure, Vigilance and Education (DRIVE) campaign of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) to help reduce the volume of vehicular traffic accidents in the city.
BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel Tagel said that the increasing number of arrests for violation of the city’s King of the road ordinance is a testament of the local police force’s firm position on traffic discipline and pedestrian safety at all times.
The city’s King of the Road ordinance underscores that pedestrians have the right-of-way in the pedestrian lanes and that all motorists are mandated to yield for at least 5 seconds in pedestrian lanes and crossings along major roads around the city.
The BCPO official pointed out that the number of apprehensions that were made during the short period of time reaffirms the firm commitment of the local police force in instilling discipline among motorists, especially within pedestrian lanes established around the city.
Tagel noted that the significant increase in apprehensions of violators of the King of the road ordinance illustrates the adherence of Baguio’s Finest to the newly implemented Oplan Discipline, Respect, Infrastructure, Vigilance and Education (DRIVE) campaign which is aimed at fostering a culture of respect and patience among road users for a safer driving environment for both residents and visitors alike.
