BAGUIO CITY – Operatives from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)- Police Station 8 and the Cordillera Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit successfully arrested the Region’s number 1 Top Most Wanted Person, following a warrant of arrest implemented on October 25, 2024, around BGH Compound, Baguio City.
Police identified the accused as a 28-year-old male and an online Customer Service Associate.
Investigation revealed that the accused illegally accessed and manipulated a Customer Support Solutions Company’s computer system between January and February 2023. To conduct his fraudulent transactions, he reportedly bypassed the company’s security measures and altered its data, causing financial damage to the company and its clients.
He now faces multiple charges under Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, including Illegal Access, Computer-Related Fraud, and Misuse of Device. Additionally, he is charged for violating Republic Act 8484, or the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998, in relation to RA 10175.
The success of the arrest is credited to the contributions of the City Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit-14, City Investigation and Detective Management Unit, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15.
PCol. Ruel D. Tagel, BCPO City Director, stated that the accomplishment echoes the commitment of all units of the PNP to foster a safe environment for all citizens, even in the cyberspace. “Our dedication to public safety extends well beyond the physical world. We are equally resolute in securing our digital spaces,” he affirmed.
The Baguio’s Finest also called on the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious online activities immediately, assuring that authorities are ready to provide assistance and prompt action.
