City officials recently granted financial assistance amounting to P2 million from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management quick response fund of the local government to the different municipalities and cities of Region VI and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) which were devastated by Typhoon Paeng on October 26-29, 2022.
Under Ordinance No. 79, series of 2022, the local legislative body authorized the grant of financial assistance amounting to P2 million from the CDRRM Quick Response Fund of the local government to the areas in Region VI and the BARMM which were devastated by Typhoon Paeng.
Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao and Nuling, Sultan Kudarat will be receiving P250,000 each while P100,000 will be given to Balete, Balatan and Nabas in Aklan; Tobias Fornier, Antique; President Roxas and Sigma in Capiz; Banate, Batad, San Dionisio and Don Salvador Benedicto in Iloilo; San Enrique, Negros Occidental; Datu Blah T. Sinsuat, Mamasapano, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Talayan in Maguindanao.
The ordinance stipulated that it has been the practice of the local government in countless occasions in the past of extending financial assistance to cities and municipalities or provinces which had been struck by natural or man-made calamities, a tradition of support and thoughtfulness and in reciprocation of what other local governments from various parts of the country had extended to the city when it was hit by the 1990 killer earthquake and other calamities.
Region VI and BARMM were devastated by Typhoon Paeng which resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of properties, damage to agriculture and critical infrastructures and disruption of means of livelihood and normal way of life in the affected areas.
The said amount was certified available by the city’s Local Finance Committee which will be charged from the Quick Response Fund of the 2022 annual budget.
