BAGUIO CITY – Preparations are ongoing for the celebration of National Flag days, Independence day and Filipino-American friendship day this month and the coming months.
In an administrative order issued last week, Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed all concerned to support and actively participate in activities of said important days.
The AO states that all government buildings and facilities shall display the Philippine Flag on May 28 to June 12; with the community enjoined to do so in their residences in open flag staffs. A flag-raising ceremony and a program takes palce at the Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo shrine at Salud Mitra barangay on May 28 at 8 AM.
A seminar for identified participants takes place at the Baguio City hall multi-purpose hall in the morning of May 29, Tuesday, in accordance to the celebration, the AO further states.
On June 9, there shall be a Kalayaan Trail Run and Music Festival with activities such as competitive running, gastronomical and musical performances to promote wellness, cultural conservation and advancement, environmental protection and the arts. This should provide a unique experience to the participants, the organizer said. Public and private cooperation and coordination is expected in this event, the organizer further said.
On Independence day, June 12; there shall be a program at the President Fidel V. Ramos (PFVR) gymnasium with a parade through the city’s thoroughfares; participated in by city employees, students and invited national and government line agencies.
An ecumenical prayer service and concert follows in the evening at the same venue.
On July 4, wreath-laying ceremonies are conducted at historical places; Malcolm Square, Kennon road, bust of Arch. Daniel Burnham and at the Philippine Commission Marker at Governor Pack road. Honorees for the event include veterans and old-timers in the city; in coordination with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). The Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) also participates in the event.
