City officials formally accepted the offer of the City of Jaipur, Republic of India for the foregoing of a sisterhood or twinning relationship with the city.
Under Resolution No. 476, series of 2022, local legislators directed the Philippine International sisterhood and Twinning Association–Baguio City chapter (PHISTA-BCC) committee to prepare the necessary documents to effect the establishment of sisterhood ties with the City of Jaipur, Republic of India.
Jaipur City, the ancient capital of Odisha, is known for being a religious center due to its many popular and significant temples. It is also known for its rich cultural and tradition-driven pursuits, such as in its Tussar loom making and weaving, ancient art of stone carving, Kincha golden grass basket weaving, bamboo crafts, Terracotta pot making, traditional painting of Joht Chitta and Muruja and traditional performance arts of Palla, Daskathia, Chaiti Ghoda Nacha, Laudi Khela and Danda Naach.
In his letter dated March 3, 2022, Chakravarti Singh Rathore, Indian Administrative Services, Collector and District Magistrate, Jaipur, government of Odisha, India, expressed their desire for a collaboration between Baguio City and Jaipur City for knowledge exchange, including harmonious focus on synergizing competing development priorities on eco-tourism, crafts, industrial development, smart highland urbanism and tourism.
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 42, series of 2008, otherwise known as the Baguio Sisterhood and Twinning Ordinance, the city government, through independent and mutual desires, has been establishing and forging twinning and sisterhood arrangements with domestic and international cities.
Further, the city is committed to establish sister city alliances with other cities of like qualities as well as twinning relationships with other local government units for the purpose of fostering long-term mutual partnerships that assist communities gain a national and global perspective to the challenges they face through planned cultural, educational, business/trade and humanitarian assistance exchanges.
In the said regard, the PHISTA-BCC in its Resolution No. 03, series of 2022, forwarded to the local legislative body and the City Mayor’s Office has strongly endorsed the forging of sisterhood ties between Baguio City and the City of Jaipur, Republic of India.
