BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently commended and congratulated Judge Mia Joy C. Oallares-Cawed of the city’s Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 4 for being awarded the Gawad Tanggol Karapatan by the Commission on Human Rights–Cordillera Administrative Region (CHR-CAR) during the 2024 International Human Rights Day celebration.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that Judge Cawed’s achievement that recognized her remarkable contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights is worthy of commendation and emulation.
Human Rights Day is observed by the international community annually on December 10. It also commemorates the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In celebration of the 2024 International Human Rights Week and culmination of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week, the key highlight of the activity was the awarding of the regional Gawad Karapatan Pantao by the CHR-CAR.
This award is a recognition given by the CHR-CAR for government agencies or government employees and public servants who championed human rights activities in their respective organizations or communities.
Further, the award was categorized into four such as Human Rights Violation Prevention or Gawad Bantay Karapatan, Human Rights Policy Contribution or Gawad Gabay Karapatan, Human Rights Promotion or Gawad Sulong Karapatan and Human Rights Protection or Gawad Tanggol Karapatan.
Judge Cawed was the identified recipient of the Gawad Tanggol Karapatan Award during the fitting ceremonies organized for the said purpose.
