A 25-year-old lad from barangay Irisan recently won two bronze medals in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Long Beach, California last June 28 to July 6, 2024.
Algene Arenillo Torres, 25, who is originally from Ilocos Sur but now a resident of barangay Irisan won the bronze medals for Vocal Open category and for Contemporary Acting.
As a result of his victorious participation, he was able to win a scholarship, a 4-week intensive training at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.
One of his achievements is representing Baguio in the PPOP competition on TV 5 where he was the leader of the 2600 Boyband. It was named after the zip code of Baguio because two of the members of the band are residents of the city.
The WCOPA stands as a prestigious beacon for talents worldwide, often heralded as the Talent Olympics, a testament to its global appeal and competitive spirit.
The event is held annually in Hollywood, the undisputed epicenter of entertainment, drawing participants from various parts of the world.
The 27th annual WCOPA served as the spectacle of talent and passion. The competition served as a grand stage where artists and entertainers across various disciplines showcased their skills, hoping to earn recognition, accolades, and a pivotal moment in their respective careers.
