BAGUIO CITY – The local government paid tribute to a Baguio-born Igorot queen who was recently crowned as the 2019 Miss Face of Tourism Philippines and who will represent in the country in an upcoming international beauty contest.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan extended the local government’s warmest greetings and congratulations to Miss Roxanne Agnaonao Baeyens, 22, a resident of Irisan, Baguio city but whose mother is from Catengan, Besao, Mountain Province for being one of the numerous beauty queens that have brought honor and pride to the city for achieving a fete that is worthy of emulation by the present and future batches of youngsters from the different parts of the city.
“We are proud of the recent achievement of Ms. Baeyens who happens to be my relative from Catengan, Besao, Mountain Province. We hope that the achievement of our new beauty will queen will serve as an inspiration to our youth to strive for the best in following her achievement,” Mayor Domogan stressed.
Baeyens was accompanied by organizers of the Ms. Face of Tourism Philippines when she paid a visit to the city hall Monday morning to pay a courtesy call to city officials and solicit the support of Baguio people to her upcoming participation to the Miss Tourism and Culture Universe in Myanmar.
She was a member of the special performing in the arts of the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) and pursued and completed her college education at the St. Louis University (SLU), thus, she is a true-blue Baguio girl.
The beauty queen narrated her experiences having to perform in the grand streetdancing competition of the Panagbenga otherwise known as the Baguio flower festival and the annual Baguio Charter Day parade.
Her mother Julia Agnaonao, who is a real estate broker, is from Catengan, Besao, Mountain Province while her father Walter Baeyens, a retired information technology specialist, is from Brussels, Belgium.
Roxanne is the third child of the Baeyens couple wherein her older sister Michelle is working in a government office in Belgium while her older brother Jeff Anthony is a mechanical engineer working with Petron in Subic.
The young beauty queen said that she is proud to carry the name of Baguio city and the Cordillera in her participation in upcoming international beauty contests considering that she was born and grew up in the city and that she learned to embrace the rich culture of the Cordillera.
According to her, Baguio city deserves to be one of the few cities in the world that was designated as part of the Creative Cities Network under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) because of the rich culture and heritage of the city and the region as a whole.
She urged the people of Baguio and the Cordillera to support her participation in the upcoming Miss tourism and Culture Universe in Myanmar by August this year, thus, the need for her to work extra hard in preparing for one of the toughest competitions that he will be joining in her young career as a beauty queen.
