Baguio City will join the celebration of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2022 with a simultaneous plogging activity dubbed “Contain that Butt.”
Mayor Benjamin Magalong who chairs the Smoke-Free Baguio Task Force which is spearheading the celebration encouraged the public – barangays, offices, schools, organizations, groups and individuals – to join the different district health centers in doing plogging or picking up cigarette butts and other litter while jogging, walking or going about their daily chores.
Assembly time is at 7 a.m. and plogging proper from 8 .m. to 10 a.m. Participants will pick up trash as they walk around the community or office premises and segregate all cigarette butts on empty bottles.
The task force also encouraged participants to take photos of the trash and cigarette butts collected for documentation and post these on their FB accounts and/or page with the hashtags “#WNTD2022”, “#AmoyPinoAmoyBaguio”, and “#BreatheBaguio” and also tag SF Baguio page.
Some barangays like the Aurora Hill Proper barangay conducted its own ahead of the schedule and posted their accomplishments.
“Let’s protect our children, our health and environment against the tobacco industry,” the task force rallied.
