City officials are encouraging the active participation of concerned stakeholders to the Philippine Heritage Awards 2022.
Under Resolution No. 375, series of 2022, local legislators through Resolution No. 138, series of 2021 authorized the city government to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) represented by Chair Arsenio J. Lizaso for the implementation of the cultural mapping in the city.
Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 10066, otherwise known as the National Cultural Heritage of 2009, approved the creation of the Philippine Heritage Awards in an effort to encourage the involvement of all individuals, non-government organizations (NGOs), and local government units in various activities promoting heritage preservation and conservation projects.
The Philippine Heritage Awards is a conservation recognition program given by the President upon the recommendation of the NCCA where prizes, awards and citations are awarded for special achievements, contributions or services in the area of heritage preservation and conservation efforts.
Section 16 of RA 7160, the Local Government Code of the Philippines, as amended, also emphasizes the responsibility of local government units to ensure and support preservation and enrichment of culture.
Earlier, the Baguio City Cultural Heritage Conservation Committee was created by virtue of Executive Order (EO) No. 13, series of 2021 which aims to ensure the protection, preservation, conservation and promotion of the local cultural historical heritage; to revitalize and maintain local heritage zones and to establish and maintain a local registry of cultural properties pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations.
