Baguio YMCA Academic Olympic champions to join reg’l contest

BAGUIO CITY – After resumption of the postponed YMCA Academic Olympics last Sunday, October 23, 2016, due to typhoon Lawin, first place winners of the Tri-level Academic competition will now unite as one team to represent YMCA of the City of Baguio, Inc. and their institutions in the upcoming 2016 YMCA North Luzon Regional Academic Olympics tentatively scheduled on November 5-6, 2016 at the YMCA here.

The North Luzon YMCA Regional Academic Olympics, an annual program of the YMCA’s Regional Committee, will see seven YMCA’s in the competition that include those from Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, Olongapo, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley and Baguio City.

Meanwhile, at least seven hundred students from different schools in Baguio City and Benguet representing sixteen elementary schools, twenty high schools and seven colleges participated in this year’s competition to vie for the championships in the different events.

Following the official results of the competition for the Elementary Level; Quiz Bee  was bagged by University of Baguio LES team of Cyrus David Rimando, Gabriel Ethan Cabrera,Elijah Bugtong for 1st place, Easter College ES came in 2nd place with Gilleine Louie Binguit, Lord Francis Gonzales, and Lorreanne Belingon, while UCCP-BEC’s Aaron Bacbac, Christy Basilan and Germaine Gillen came in 3rd place. Bible Quiz Bee had Renalyn Estara of Benguet State University ELS in 1st place, Lea Paula Alfonso BSU-ELS 2nd Place, while Aicina Dominique Flores of Baguio Pines Family Learning Center came in 3rd place.

On-The Spot-Drawing: Susane A. Pangsiw (BSU-ELS) 1st place, Ainsley Dacsayan (ECES) 2nd place, Ednie Rohann Salvador (BSU-ELS) 3rd place. Tula: Danielle Mae Bulatao (Manuel L. Quezon ES) 1st place, Nathalia Kelly Lubrica (UCCP-Integrated School) 2nd place, Jzy Andrae Sagario (UCGSHS) 3rd place. Essay Writing: 1ST PLACE- Bless Bacate (BSU-ELS), 2nd place-Joshua Dapiawen (UBLES), 3rd place- Lorelei Abarquez (BSU-ELS). Vocal Solo: 1ST Place – Aizel Kane Visaya (Star College Inc.), 2nd Place- Franzine Ma. Donita Espinola (UBLES), 3rd place-Shereen Danielle Haduca (BPFLC). Modern Dance: 1st Place-Samantha Haduca, Allysa Gwyne Banoy, Geanne Carla Garcia, Ronaena Serrano, Reid Steven Somngi, Brent Sannad (BPFLC), 2nd place- Arwen Velasquez, Shayzee E. Baldino, Malaysia Klaire Veluz, Jolan Xyla Darla, Erin Pearl Balangoy, Marcelito Cuadlisan Jr. (Star College Inc. ES), 3rd place- Wayne Eusebio, Drew Gwyneth Batinay, Gabrielle Collado, Jasmine Faye Ramiscal, Chelsea Bolayo, Althea Agngarayngay (BSU-ELS). Also tying for 3RD Place- Maeganne Kate Pasion, Aeyra Brea Kaguro, Steffi Mhurrae Casibang, Geltrude Claire Asbok, Vince Joshua Lacad, Lorilee Abarquez (BSU-ELS).

Meanwhile, the High School contenders also marked their positions as Easter College High School Quiz Bee teams A,B,and C, dominated the event with; 1st place- Elmira Torres, Appla Lapangan,Loida Matecyeng. 2nd place- Hanah Piluden, Phrodite Faguiagas, Miriam Dampilag. 3rd Place- Esther Milan, Esther Escano, and Julie Ann Lawingan, topping twenty five teams in the event.

The Philippine Science High School Bible Quiz competitors meantime also topped the event with Laycah Cadag and Alton Mark Bayla bagging the 1st and 2nd place respectively while Emmanuel Jay Ragay of the University of Baguio High School came in 3rd place. On-the-Spot Drawing; 1st place- Andrea San Gabriel (UBSci.HS), 2nd place- Neil Jay Dacumos (Star College HS), 3rd place- Glazel Annee Agong (BCT-SHS).  Speech competition winners for Oration were; 1st place- Kayla Angeli Resurrection (Phil.Sci.HS), 2nd place – Edgar Cornelio Soriano (BCNHS), 3rd place- Aaliyah Suni-en (Irisan Nat’l. HS).

Extemporaneous Speech: 1st place- Toby Leung (Phil.Sci.HS), 2nd place- Sophia Lunor (Phil. Sci.HS), while Chrislyn Tayaban of (Star College HS) and Jai Lopez of (UBHS) tied in 3rd place.  Essay Writing:1st place- Dennis Nathan D. Peralta (BCNHS), 2nd place- Leliza S. Sama (KCPHS), 3rd place- Edgar Biteng Jr. (PSHS). Vocal Solo: 1st place- Shella Mae Jallorina (UBHS), 2nd place- Alyssa Cancilar (PSHS), 3rd place – Mary Grace Lazatin (PSHS). Vocal Duet: 1st place- Timothy Vhiel Figueroa, Kyra Katrina Mengote (UBHS), 2nd place- Rana Azuri, Mel Hernandez (PSHS), 3rd place- Princess Jasmin Carino, Melchor Pimentel (UBHS). Modern Dance (Hip-Hop), 1st place- Bernalyn Catanes, Zorran Anno, Samantha Kyle Eladjoe, Ishi Mae Dizon, Judy Mae Libiaso, Tracie Eladjoe. 2nd place- Patricia Palaroan, Xandra Mae Araos, Angelica Lambino, Christine Librada, Leangela Dacayo, Celine Peridas. 3rd place- Milycka Soriano, Tristan Kim Layug, Rachelle Anne Manalang, Robin Ace Atijera, Edraine Marie Fortez, Jessica Langan (UBHS).

Vocal Solo: 1st Place- Leamory Yusuastel Akay (UB), 2nd Place- Glenn Arapoc (PMA), 3rd Place- Monica Ignacio (BCU). Vocal Duet: 1st Place- Normi Nikka Salonga, Bryanly S. Rodriguez (UB), 2nd Place- Maris Guisihan, Knarl Tiongson (PMA), 3rd Place- Claudess C. Lapic, Trann John D. Gados (BCU). Ballroom Dance: 1st Place- Mar Enfermo Almo, Danica Joy Natividad, 2nd Place- Jayna Angela Aguilen, Abert Corpuz (UB), 3rd Place- Jona M. Bernabe, Joven E. Quinto (BCT).

Aside from the individual and team winnings of each participating schools they were also given the chance to be awarded as the overall winners for the 2016 YMCA Academic Olympics local selection determined from the overall points garnered in all events, where only the schools with complete representation in all events were qualified, each level of competition were awarded the overall awards as follows; Elementary level overall winners: Champion – Benguet State University Elementary Laboratory School, 1st runner up overall – University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School, 2nd runner up overall – Baguio Pines Family Learning Center. High School level overall winners; Champion – Philippine Science High School, 1st runner up overall – University of Baguio High School, 2nd runner up Overall – Kings College of the Philippines High School. College level overall winners: Champion – University of Baguio, 1st runner up Overall – Philippine Military Academy, 2nd runner up Overall – Baguio College of Technology.
