BAGUIO CITY – A barangay kagawad fell into the arms of anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera and local police along Villamor Street, Lualhati, here Thursday.
Raphael Sotelo Rancapan alias Paeng, 39 years old, and barangay kagawad of BGH Compound, Baguio City was arrested after selling a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu worth P1,000.00 to an undercover agent.
He is now temporarily detained at the PDEA-CAR jail facility pending the filing of a case for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act Number 9165 otherwise known as the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”.
Rancapan’s arrest came days after the Regional Oversight Committee came up with the declaration that only six barangays in Baguio are drug-affected. His apprehension is a manifestation that there are barangay officials within the city who are involved in the illegal drug trade.
