BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Green Police, along with some barangay officials and functionaries of Poblacion, Bontoc Ili, Caluttit, and Samoki participated in an orientation to reinforce their roles and responsibilities as partners of the Municipal Government of Bontoc in addressing the town’s solid waste management.
The orientation, a collaborative effort of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and Population Development (PopDev) Office, was held on February 26-27, 2025, at the Am-ancho Building of the Am-ancho Solid Waste Management Facility.
Department Head Roger Agcapen of MENRO welcomed the participants, noting that their presence exemplifies their commitment to environmental stewardship and dedication to maintaining a clean and sustainable Bontoc.
It is worth noting that Green Police members were neither selected nor employed by the municipal government. Instead, they are dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and effort without expecting monetary compensation or rewards. Each volunteer is assigned to their respective barangay, playing a crucial role in maintaining proper waste segregation and collection.
Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., lauded the Green Police for their industry, patience, and dedication. He acknowledged their commitment to waking up before dawn to oversee proper waste segregation at designated collection points as early as 5:00 AM.
During his message, he thanked the Green Police for their contributions to the town’s waste management program.
During the event, personnel from MENRO and the participants discussed various concerns and issues regarding waste management. Ordinances governing the roles and responsibilities of the Green Police, barangay officials, and MENRO were reiterated to ensure a well-coordinated effort in waste management.
Mayor Tudlong also took the opportunity to visit the Am-ancho facility as part of his continued efforts to improve solid waste management in the capital town.
Meanwhile, personnel from the Population Development Office conducted an in-depth discussion covering various aspects of responsible parenthood, emphasizing the importance of family planning, child-rearing, and instilling values in children.
Additionally, marital issues and the elements of a strong and healthy marriage were explored, offering insights into effective communication, conflict resolution, and mutual respect between spouses. They also highlighted the significance of maintaining good hygiene practices, both personal and environmental, to promote overall well-being.
The discussion further extended to hygiene protocols, particularly focusing on proper waste segregation, sanitation measures, and strategies to prevent the spread of communicable diseases within households and communities.
The session aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to improve both their family dynamics and community health standards.
The orientation program highlighted the strong partnership between the local government, Green Police volunteers, and Barangay LGUs in promoting sustainable waste management and overall community well-being. With the continued support of the municipal government and the dedication of the Green Police, Bontoc is set to strengthen its waste management efforts while fostering a healthier and more environmentally responsible community.
