TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To maximize the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) capabilities of the different barangays of the city, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a four-day Capacitation and Leveling Off of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
For the next four days, the 43 barangays were divided into two clusters and had been drilled about their different functions.
CDRRM Officer Jeremias Ammakiw said that there is a need to capacitate the BDRRMC and that he expects by the end of the seminar, each barangay would have created or have a better understanding about their councils.
“After the establishment of their council, the barangays should come up with their BDRRM plan to use the 5% BDRRM Utilization Fund,” he said.
Ammakiw then said that he is also happy about the performance of the barangays when a disaster/accident would occur in their area of responsibility and their readiness to respond immediately, but added that the CDRRMO will still assist and guide them to improve their services further.
The CDRRM Officer then said that they have assessed the strengths and weaknesses of each barangay during a certain calamity/disaster and that it shows that the barangays are capable of responding if anything were to happen.
Ammakiw said that each BDRRMC had received basic life support and first aid trainings which was funded by the city government and assured that they will also receive refresher trainings to stay sharp if anything were to happen in their respective barangays. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
