BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested all the one hundred twenty eight barangays in the city to designate an area for animal and biodegradable waste.
Under Resolution No. 706, series of 2024, local legislators stated that there is a need to promote responsible animal waste management to include other biodegradable waste where each barangay will have its centralized area to conduct waste composting and the by-product will be used as fertilizer for agriculture industry stakeholders in their respective communities.
During the Scout Official For a Day (SOFAD) session held on October 21, 2024, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Maria Athena D. Tejada that earnestly requested all the city’s barangays to designate an area for animal and biodegradable waste.
Ordinance No. 18, series of 2016 or the Environment Code of Baguio City comprehensively encompasses all guidelines on the conduct of environmental programs and activities.
Earlier, Baguio City was able to garner recognition for its dedication to cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The city was honored with the esteemed ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award that heights its initiatives in enhancing public spaces, environmental conservation, ensuring public safety, proper waste disposal and maintaining sanitation standards.
The council pointed out that residents must discover more about how and what they could do to help the city and come up with sustainable ways that will start in their respective barangays.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the city’s one hundred twenty eight barangays for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
