BAUKO, Mountain Province – Boosting the agricultural activities and productivity and better access to education are just but two among the expected benefits to communities in upper Bauko with the groundbreaking ceremony of the 25-million-peso worth “Improvement of the Balicanao- Am-am Provincial Road” held in Sitio Am-am, Sadsadan, Bauko on September 13, 2024.
The ceremony was led by the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. and Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. Joining them were Vice Gov. Francis O. Tauli and District II board members, Bauko Mayor Randolph T. Awisan, members of the OPAPRU management team and the OPAPRU consultants. Also, in attendance to witness the activity were Bauko barangay officials, uniformed personnel, provincial government heads, and assistant heads of offices and community members.
The project was funded through the partnership between the Office of Pres. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and the OPAPRU through its Payapa sa Masaganang Pamayanan Program and will be implemented by the provincial government.
Secretary Galvez directed the personnel from the Provincial Engineer’s Office to use the funds appropriately for the successful implementation of the project. He said that the funding of more road projects in the area will depend on the successful implementation of the current project.
He suggested the provincial government to come up with a master plan for the complete interconnectivity of the road network at the said plateau. This, he said, will greatly help in solving possible transportation encumbrances when the main roads are unpassable due to road erosion and the like. Also, he said that the vegetable plateau will be an attraction to many countryside enthusiasts who are looking for more peaceful and scenic getaway places, considering that the place offers a great view and natural wonders.
The secretary further mentioned that the road project, when realized, is a key component of development and will play a very important role in economic growth and poverty alleviation.
Moreover, Galvez also lauded Governor Lacwasan and the provincial officials for their initiatives and efforts in looking for ways and means to further improve the province’s infrastructures for the benefit of their constituents.
Meanwhile, the officials present were one in expressing their gratitude to President Marcos and OPAPRU for bringing the project to their place and to the provincial government for working with the agency. According to the barangay officials who were present, the road improvement will be a great help to students and to the vegetable traders in their area because of the improved mobility.
Governor Lacwasan said that the ground breaking of the project is one practical step of the government to enhance and provide livelihood opportunities.
Furthermore, a PhP105-million cheque was received by the officials present for the implementation of other OPAPRU projects in the province. By Hail, MP
