BAGUIO CITY – The prime athletic competitions participated by the different educational institutions of Baguio and La Trinidad is set to open on October 21 at the Kings College of the Philippines (KCP), in La Trinidad, Benguet.
The full roster of member schools of the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) are expected to be back in the fold.
Aside from host KCP, La Trinidad schools Benguet State University (BSU) and Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC), as well as Baguio Central University (BCU), Baguio College of Technology (BCT), Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Pines City Colleges (PCC), Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Baguio (UB), defending overall champion University of the Cordilleras (UC), and University of the Philippines-Baguio (UP) shall composed this year’s participants, the most number since the leagues inception.
Archery, badminton, baseball, chess, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, wushu, and basketball, plus futsal, a demo sport, are the events that will be bannered during the first phase of the competitions.
Baskeball action will open right in the afternoon at the CCDC Gym with the Admirals taking on the Amazing Tigers, new nickname of the KCP cagers at 1:00PM, followed by the BCT Atoms taking on the PCC Warriors at 2:30PM and the PMA Cavaliers taking on the BSU Wildcats at 4:00PM.
Among the innovations implemented this year is the addition of muaythai as a regular medal sport.
SLU Athletic Director Honey Jerelyn Garcia confirmed they will not field participants in the combative sports boxing and muaythai.
