ITOGON, Benguet – Employees and contingents of the Benguet Corporation (BC) were able to seal the limelight from other mining companies in the various competitions that were lined up for the 63rd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference spearheaded by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) held in Baguio City last week.
BC was adjudged the Best Underground Safety Record from July 2015 to June 2016 for its Acupan Contract Mining Project and the Safest Mineral Processing Operation, Calcining Category for its Irisan Lime Plant.
For the individual awards, Martin Onnan was bestowed the Best Miner, Juan Napudo was named as the Best Underground Supervisor while Jerrel Lagoyyo was awarded as the Best Safety Inspector.
In the various competitions slated during the 3-day PMSEA gathering, BC garnered first place with the best firefighter through y Lagoyyo, first runnerup in the Tug of Peace and first runnerup in bowling through its BC Team A.
Antonio Buenavizta, BC resident manager, commended the members of the BC competing teams and finalists in the awards for their sustained performances that brought honor and pride for the oldest mining company in the country.
He also expressed his gratitude to the PMSEA and the organizers for the various competitions that feted the best among the best from the different mining companies for providing the opportunities for them to showcase their performances in the industry.
“We are elated on the outcome of the awards and the competitions where our employees and contigents actively participated. WE hope that we will continue to exceed our performances in future competitions,”Buenavizta stressed.
For his part, laywer Froilan Roger C. Lawilao, BC administration department manager, said the awards received by the company will serve as an inspiration for them to make it as a benchmark in projecting their future activities for the company to be able to maintain its status in the country’s mining industry.
He said the individuals garneed by some of the company’s miners and employees will serve as an inspiration for their fellow miners to strive for the best in their respective fields to help the company achieve its projected goals and objectives in the future.
BC now operates its Acupan Contract Miing through a sharing scheme with various small-scale mining asociations through a sustainable sharing shceme acceptable to the minng groups benefitting from the company’s existing tenement.
Lawilao claimed the recent achievements of the company and its employees in one of the prestigious gathering of mining companies in the country speaks well of how the firm adheres to the practice of responsible mining for the benefit of the people within its host and neighboring communities.
