BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio Country Club pushed through with their Employees Sports Fest on Wednesday, September 4 at the Cordillera Convention Hall despite heavy rains.
Rain or shine, the program kicked off with the Assembly of Colors parade, introducing the employees’ teams for the sports fest.
However, due to the non-stop rain, the parade only took place within the convention hall’s grounds. Originally, the program was planned to start with a Fun Run, however, due to inclement weather, it was postponed.
The employees were grouped based on their respective departments with six teams respectively: the Blue Archers, Greyhounds, Green Eagles, Maroon Jaguars, Red Ducks, and the Yellow Mulligans.
The parade was followed by the singing of the national anthem, the reciting of the “We Serve with Honor Creed”, the opening remarks delivered by the BCC General Manager, Mr. Anthony De Leon, and finally, the Oath of Sportsmanship.
Shortly after, they proceeded with a quick awarding ceremony for the employees, recognizing their efforts and years of service. Later on, the employees showed off their moves and groove through the Strong Nation Zumba session.
Moreover, the program’s morning session was filled with fun Filipino games such as sipa, Chinese garter, patintero, and name the tune.
To conclude the morning program, the employees gathered for the most-awaited bingo bonanza.
Each department had a pair of representatives who showcased their talent in singing and harmonizing their voices. For this category, the duet pair of the Red Ducks, representing the food and beverage division, brought home the victory. The Green Eagles from the executive division placed second, while the Blue Archers of the rooms division garnered third place.
The Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest competition presented a variety of talents, including solo and duet singing, dancing, and interpretative performances. Contestants also faced a Question and Answer portion that tested their ability to think quickly under pressure. At the end of the event, the Red Ducks, representing the Food and Beverage Division, secured both the Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest titles, impressing the judges with their talent and poise.
The Green Eagles representing the Executive Division in the women’s category and Blue Archers in the Rooms Division in the men’s category obtained second place, while Blue Archers in the men’s category and the Green Eagles in the women’s garnered third place.
The cheer dance competition was a fierce fight between the Red Ducks, Green Eagles, Maroon Jaguars/Greyhounds/Yellow Mulligans, and Blue Archers. The teams had five to seven-minute dance routines with the theme “freestyle”, varying from cultural to unconventional performances.
The event ended with the Blue Archers championing the cheer dance competition with an under-the-sea-inspired routine. One of the performers, Ceejay Aquino Santos, shared how they managed their time for the preparation of the routine.
“One month lang kami nag-prepare… break time or after work hanggang 9PM,” Santos stated.
Furthermore, BCC General Manager Anthony De Leon expressed their future plans for the annual Employees Sports Fest.
“We are looking forward to expand the event by inviting the other establishments here in Camp John Hay,” De Leon said. By Heleina Taeza, Michael John Dadd, Janine Laureta, and Audree Lumauig
