BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) under the City Mayor’s Office and other law enforcement agencies to significantly increase their personnel visibility around the city’s central business district from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Under Resolution No. 666, series of 2024, local legislators stated that there are numerous posts in the social media ranging from the proliferation of crimes like pickpockets, petty fights, and unruly behaviors to missing persons that are allegedly happening within the city’s central business district area, especially during rush hours when most people are either off from school or work.
The council added that these crime incidents and other unlawful acts usually occurring from 6 pm to 10 pm can be prevented or deterred by the presence of additional law enforcers visibly seen on duty or stationed in strategic areas and streets within the city’s central business district area.
The body claimed that the visibility of law enforcers will further boost the city’s reputation of being a very safe city for everyone in the community.
During the Senior Citizens Official For A Day (SCOFAD) session held on October 14, 2024, the SCOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SCOFAD Councilor Aguiles C. de Jesus that requested the BCPO, the POSD and other law enforcement agencies to possibly increase their personnel visibility around the city’s central business district from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Earlier, the BCPO committed to significantly increase the presence of police personnel in crime-prone areas in the city that includes the central business district to deter the commission of crimes and ensure the safety of the people who flock to the various jeepney terminals en route to their respective homes after attending class and work.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the BCPO, POSD and other law enforcement agencies for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
