BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) recorded zero crime incidents in the city during the conduct of the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections that allowed authorities to declare that the political exercise was generally peaceful.
BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel D. Tagel attributed the generally peaceful situation during the conduct of the elections to the efficient planning and the strategic deployment of police personnel.
Earlier, the BCPO intensified its security preparations month ahead of the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections to ensure the overall safety and security of the people wanting to cast their votes for their chosen candidates for the different elected positions in the national and local levels.
The BCPO deployed around 775 police personnel to the different voting centers around the city to bolster visibility aside from the conduct of the required round the clock monitoring to swiftly whatever emerging concerns that will transpire during the casting and canvassing of votes.
Further, there were also available quick response teams and reactionary stand by support force to respond to emergency situations and any call for reinforcement from deployed personnel in the established polling centers in the city.
Tagel claimed that the security operations were conducted in close coordination with the Commission Elections (Comelec) and partner agencies to reflect a strong multi-agency collaboration that proved vital in preserving law and order during the conduct of the elections in the city.
According to him, one of the major contributory factor to the generally peaceful situation in the city during the elections was the public’s discipline and active cooperation coupled with aggressive information campaigns on election laws and guidelines.
“We were confident from the start that with proper preparations and strong community support and the peace loving character of the people of Baguio we remain optimistic about the mid-term election,” Tagel said.
He pointed out that the aforesaid level of preparation even allowed BCPO to send some 90 personnel to augment government operating troops in Abra to help maintain law and order in the violent-stricken province.
BCPO vowed to carry towards the same level of discipline and dedication in the public safety operations to ensure that Baguio remains safe, secure and orderly following the successful conduct of the May 12, 2025 elections. By Dexter A. See
