BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) recorded zero incidents under the eight focus crimes or the so-called index crimes in the city during the Holy Week from April 13-19, 2025.
BCPO public information officer Police Maj. Marcy Grace Marron said that the zero focus crime incidents reflect a 100 percent decrease of the said crimes compared to the same Holy Week period last year where there were eight cases of physical injuries, rape, robbery and theft.
The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft and carnapping of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
She claimed that the recent achievement of the local police force, especially in the realization of zero focus crime incidents, was realized through the sustained efforts of the law enforcers in the conduct of intensified patrol operations, heightened police visibility through the deployment of personnel in strategic areas and close coordination with various community stakeholders and barangay officials.
However, the BCPO official noted that there were some 16 vehicular accidents that were recorded by the BCPO during the said period where 14 were said to be reckless imprudence resulting to damage to properties while two cases involved physical injuries.
For his part, BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel Tagel pointed out the importance of consistency in law enforcement initiatives that resulted in the peaceful celebration of the Holy Week break in the city.
He encouraged the public to be vigilant and cautious on their surroundings and immediately report to the concerned authorities suspicious activities of lawless elements and strictly abide by the pertinent provisions of local ordinances for sustained law and order in the city.
Tagel assured both residents and visitors that BCPO will consistently implement its mission to create a secure environment through the innovation, collaboration and integrity-driven services, especially in the discharge of their mandate to serve and protect.
He asserted that the BCPO remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring law and order not only during the Holy Week but also during the conduct of the upcoming May 12, 2025 mid-term elections and throughout the year.
“We will persistently maintain the highest level of vigilance and proactive policing as part of our ongoing efforts to safeguard the community and ensure public safety,” Tagel stressed. By Dexter A. See
