BAGUIO CITY – A total of 100 of the Summer Capital’s 128 barangays have been cleared of illegal drugs according to an accomplishment report of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) on its barangay drug clearing operations from July 1, 2016 to March this year.
The report was revealed by BCPO community relations office chief Armando Gapuz during the 1st quarter regular City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) meeting held March 27 at the Baguio city multi-purpose hall and chaired by Mayor Mauricio Domogan and co-chaired by BCPO Dir. Eliseo Tanding.
Gapuz said five barangays have undergone drug clearing operations; four are unaffected by illegal drugs; 17 barangays are re-affected or resurgent; and two included in the Pres. Rodgrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD) barangay narcolist during the almost four-year period.
One of the barangays in the PRRD narcolist has been cleared as of March 7.
He added that 402 drug personalities were arrested while 2,512 surrendered during the same period. Those arrested were 328 drug pushers and 74 users while those who surrendered were 372 drug pushers and 2,140 users.
CADAC is a coordinating body mandated to look into and reconciles all anti-drug abuse interventions of government agencies, local government and the private sector in order to formulate a holistic approach in curbing the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city that pose a serious threat to the future of its youth.
Its composition and functions is provided by joint memorandum circular no. 2018-1 of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Dangerous Drug Board or the implementing guidelines on the functionality and effectiveness of local anti-drug abuse councils.
