BAGUIO CITY – Local police authorities warned the public on the continuous sale of illegal vape products in the city following the successful entrapment and arrest of a 28-year old suspect along Harrison road for violation of Ordinance No. 34, series of 2017 or the Smoke Free Baguio measure which is currently being strictly implemented in the country’s Summer Capital.
The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) extended its full support to the city’s Smoke Free Task Force in the implementation of the said operation leading to the arrest of the illegal vape vendor and the confiscation of approximately 600 vapes and some 140 assorted vape batteries with a market value of more than P600,000.
BCPO City Director Ruel D. Tagel said that the successful operation highlights the importance of multi-sectoral coordination in enforcing various laws, rules and regulations.
He assured that the local police force remains committed in supporting the local government’s smoke free campaign to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the residents and visitors alike.
According to him, the operation against the sale of illegal vape products will continue as part of the city’s border public health and safety agenda considering the dangers posed by smoking to the health not only of the users but also of the public.
Tagel rallied the public to be vigilant on the activities around them and for them to report to the nearest police office any similar illegal activities being done through the various channels that are readily available.
The BCPO official pointed out that the successful operation against the sale of illegal vape products in the city should serve as a reminder that non-compliance with existing laws, rules and regulations will not be tolerated by law enforcers and that the local police force will closely work with the city’s enforcement units to uphold the law and protect the welfare of the residents and visitors, especially the youth who are exposed to the dangers of vaping.
