Beckel, LA TRINIDAD – The teachers and pupils of the Beckel Elementary School in this capital town participated in the synchronizes Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) election at last February 14, 2020, with 465 learners, including the teachers.
The SPG had three participating parties, namely, Accountable Party, Responsible Party, and Democratic Party, each with 10 officers aiming to be in the position they desired.
The learners were composed of Grade 4 and Grade 5 pupils as Grade 6 pupils were not allowed to file their candidacy since they will be leaving their alma matter by the end of the current school year. Before the election, the aspiring candidates filed their candidacy with he SPG teacher adviser and at the same time, together with the teachers tasked to be the COMELEC officers, screened the aspirants before the official list of candidates was posted.
The three parties were given limited time to have their campaign with each party independently planning their campaign strategies, and conducted room-to-room campaigns to introduce themselves and their agenda persuade the pupils to support and vote for them.
February 14, 2020 was set as the synchronized SPG Election and the activity which went on smoothly. The election was so exciting because the pupils experienced the real scenario during an actual election day. The pupils cast their votes using the ballots and dropped it in the ballot box by grade level. After the election, the teachers also participated by casting their votes. The teacher-COMELEC members counted the votes together with the assigned incumbent SPG representative.
The following Monday, the teacher adviser of SPG proclaimed the winners for the new set of SPG officials for the incoming school year. After the proclamation, the winning candidates acknowledged their school mates followed by their oath taking. The school head of the mentioned school, Mr. Joselito M. Tabayoyong, served as the inducting officer.
