BAUKO, Mountain Province – The municipal government is on the final stages of the month-long celebration of its 12th Begnas di Bauko festival wherein the major highlights will be conducted on March 8-10, 2018.
Mayor Abraham B. Akilit said that this year’s theme of the celebration is “Bauko: Eb-eb di Kawanga-wanga, Entako Kawwanan, Umagyudan di Batawa ay Datngan di Sasayangdan (Bauko: Headwater of Major Rivers in the North, Together, We Nurture and Protect for the Next Generation”.)
Trekking enthusiasts will have the chance to climb up the towering and majestic mountains of the town through the Trek to Paradise Falls and Trek to Mount Molmog which will be done on March 3 and 4, respectively.
Locals will have the chance to display their native attires through the Creative Attire Competition and Talent competition of the Search for Miss Bauko which will be held at the municipal oval on March 4 while there will be a farmers symposium which will be held at the Bauko satellite office at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) building in Mount Data.
On March 8, 2018, the day will start with the Bauko marathon to be followed by a parade, unity mass, presentation of selected womens organization, launching of agri-tourism and livelihood fair, sabeng cookfest, basketball games, Search for Miss Begnas and Federation of Workers Organization forum to be spearheaded by the Bauko chapter.
On March 9, 2018, the day will start with a civic-military parade and streetdancing followed by the opening wherein Transportation Assistant Secretary Elvira Y. Medina will serve as guest of honor and speaker, opening rites, investiture of Miss Begnas 2018, cultural presentation of the 22 barangays, literary musical contest, continuation of ball games among others.
On March 10, 2018, there will be a drum and lyre and indigenous Musial instruments exhibition followed by an opening program where Senator Grace Poe will serve as the guest of honor and speaker, awarding and recognition of most outstanding citizens of Bauko, healthiest barangay and board topnotchers, Talent showdown, indigenous games and continuation of ball games, awarding of prizes and closing program which will be participated in by barangay officials, municipal officials and employees and the residents of the town.
Mayor Akilit urged the natives of Bauko ad those who have migrated to other places locally and overseas to spend time in coming back to their hometown to witness how the municipality was able to grow into a developing tourist destination which is expected to become a major economic driver of the locality in the future.
He said that the conduct of the various activities lined up for the celebration is one of the ways by which the local government intends to aggressively promote the town as an upcoming tourist haven, especially the presence of scenic destinations that should be tapped for the benefit of enticing foreign and domestic visitors to consider Bauko as part of their itinerary when spending their vacation in the city.
