BAGUIO CITY – Board of Directors and the management of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) were grateful to the local governments, concerned sectors and individuals that expressed their sincerest gratitude to former General Manager Gerardo P. Verzosa for his over three decades of service to the rural electric cooperative that allowed the same to reach the highest pedestal of the country’s power industry and strongly supporting the appointment of Engr. Melchor S. Licoben as the new General Manager.
BENECO board president Atty. Esteban Somngi disclosed that over the past several weeks, the electric cooperative (EC) had been receiving resolutions from barangays, city, municipal and provincial governments, private sector partners and letters from individuals that expressed their gratitude to former GM Verzosa for his unwavering, passionate and dedicated service to BENECO over the past 3 decades and strongly supporting the action of the board of Directors to appoint Engr. Licoben as his replacement to the coveted position.
He stated that the resolutions and letters of gratitude and support from the cross section of the society in BENECO’s franchise area shoes the solid partnership that had been established between the EC and the member-consumer-owners, thus, the BENECO family is grateful to the concerned stakeholders for such an inspiring and motivating gesture for both the outgoing and incoming officers.
“Words are not sufficient to express our gratitude to all those who individually and collectively expressed their support for out outgoing and incoming officers but we will reciprocate such good deeds with quality service,” Somngi stressed.
For his part, Engr. Licoben, who rose from the ranks and was one of the members of the team assembled by retired GM Verzosa that converted BENECO from an ailing cooperative to one of the country’s top performing ECs, also expressed his deepest appreciation to all those who communicated their support to him and his former boss.
“We are humbled by the overwhelming support from both our government and private partners. We will try out best to continue moving our electric cooperative to greater heights with the support of concerned stakeholders,” Engr. Licoben stated.
The new BENECO manager assured that he will be paying a visit to the different local governments and private partners to present plans and programs geared towards providing the member-consumer-owners with cheap power cost, reliable and dependable power distribution system and enhanced corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Earlier, the BENECO board informed its government and private partners that GM Verzosa retired from service effective May 1, 2020 and that Engr. Licoben was appointed as the new GM effective the same date by virtue of Resolution No. 202-90 approved on April 21, 2929,
The local governments that strongly supported Licoben’s appointment as new General Manager include the provincial government of Benguet, the city government of Baguio, the municipal governments of Sablan, Tuba, Itogon, Bokod, Atok, Kapangan. Kibungan, Mankayan, Bakun, Tublay and Atok, barangays ABCR, Brookside, Atok Trail, Country Club Village, DPS Compound, Engineer’s Hill, Greenwater Village, Happy Hallow, Kias, Lualhati, Lower Magsaysay, Pacdal, Salud Mitra, Scout Barrio, South Drive, Upper Gen. Luna and Hillside, Pico in La Trinidad, MCO of Loakan-Apugan, Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC), Baguio Filipino-Chamber of Commerce and Industry , Cordillera PNP Press Corps, PNP-IAS Region III headed by Brig. Gen. Jimmy Catanes, Liga ng mga Barangay – Baguio City chapter, Liga ng mga Barangay – Tuba Chapter Liga ng mga Barangay – Mankayan Chapter.
The said local governments, groups and individuals, except for the provincial government of Benguet, the municipal government of Tublay and the Liga ng mg barangay, also passed separate resolutions extending their sincerest gratitude to former GM Verzosa for his passionate and dedicated service to BENECO for over 3 decades that allowed the EC to reach the highest pedestal of the country’s power industry.
BENECO is one of the few Class AAA electric cooperatives in the country having achieved a single digit systems loss, 100 percent collection efficiency and the realization of the implementation of the government’s Sitio Electrification Program (SEP), specially in non-viable areas in the different parts of Benguet which is part of its franchise area.
