LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap assured provincial, municipal and barangay officials there will be more high-impact development projects for the province aside from the efficient and effective delivery of basic services to the countryside.
In a meeting with provincial officials, the 13 municipal mayors and the 140 barangays at the Benguet State University (BSU) closed gymnasium recently, Congressman Yap rallied local officials to remain united in improving the lives of their constituents as there will be more development projects for the province under the appropriations of government agencies included in the proposed P4.5 trillion national budget next year.
He claims he is passionate to work for the overall growth and development of Benguet through the implementation of high-impact development projects as he personally saw the potential of the province’s remote communities to being development as part of the food basket and tourism destinations, apart from the existing tourist spots, to spur economic activities in the province.
Congressman Yap disclosed that more students will benefit from the Youth Assistance Program (YAP) with funds for the said educational assistance program to be lodged with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Further, he claimed that more people impacted by the community quarantine to combat the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) will also benefit from the government’s livelihood program under the labor department, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) under the social welfare department, and many other programs, projects and activities of the different government agencies that stand to benefit the people provincewide.
According to him, in his numerous visits to the remote villages of the province over the past several months, he saw the immediate needs of the people to be given attention by the government, thus, he made representations with the various heads of departments to prioritize the implementation of high-impact development projects in strategic places in the province and enhance the delivery of basic services for the same to reach the people living in the remotest communities.
Congressman Yap emphasized he learned to love Benguet since he was appointed by former House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano as the caretaker congressman of the province after the untimely demise of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr. and that he will stand by his promise to provide genuine service to the people.
Aside from working for the allocation of more development funds for the province, the congressman also worked out the inclusion of Benguet as a prime tourist destination because of the presence of scenic tourist destinations considered to be must-see destinations worthy of visiting by both foreign and domestic visitors wanting to explore new sites to visit in the various parts of the country.
