LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap assured the present administration and concerned stakeholders of the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) that he will support the development thrusts of the university to allow the same to soar to greater heights amidst the ongoing health crisis triggered by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In his speech during the Investiture of Dr. Felipe S. Comila as the 7th BSU President, Yap, who chairs the House Committee on Appropriations, stated that the institution should work hard for the establishment of campuses in the different municipalities to allow students who cannot afford to go to the schools’ existing campuses in Buguias and Bokod towns to acquire a higher level of education that they will use to help in uplifting the living condition of their families in the rural areas of the province.
He also urged the BSU administration to avoid disposing the university’s landholdings so that it will be able to maximize its potentials in generating resources that could be used in enhancing the delivery of quality education to the enrolled students in the various courses offered in the state university.
Congressman Yap disclosed that he supports the development plan being introduced by the present administration, particularly the planned improvement of the university’s sports complex and the proposed put up of the techno hub similar to the one situated in the University of the Philippines (UP) among others.
The lawmaker claimed that since the university is an education institution, it should ensure that it will be able to deliver the same to its clients, specifically the students who want to avail of quality education for them to become productive citizens of the country.
According to him, education is still the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give to their children because it could not be easily taken away from them that is why BSU should be able to produce graduates who will be able to excel in their chosen fields of profession and help bring honor and pride not only to the higher education institution but also to their places of origin.
Congressman Yap said that he will continue to consult with the present administration and the concerned stakeholders on how to pursue the implementation of the development programs and projects of the university that could be completed the soonest for the same to be able to contribute in charting the development thrust of the province and the Cordillera Region as a whole.
He emphasized that the BSU should continue to introduce innovations that will allow the same to produce graduates who will be able to help bringing the institution to greater heights while excelling in their chosen fields of profession amidst the existing challenges posed by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that had warranted the government to implement flexible learning for those who are enrolled in the different colleges and universities in the country.
