LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – In celebration of the 21st National Buntis Day, the province of Benguet, in partnership with the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) Northwest Luzon Chapter, conducted free Medical-Dental and Health Promotion Outreach for pregnant women from La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay (LISTT) areas on March 10, 2025 at the Benguet Sports Complex.
This year’s theme is, “Together for Mothers: Empowering Communities for Safer Pregnancies.”
The health services offered were prenatal check-up, anemia screening, HIV screening, bone screening, dental check-up, ultrasound, and health lectures.
“Actually, this is province-wide kuma ngem na set mi nga dituy nga areas (LISTT) kasi dagidiay aadayu ket marigatan da nga umay dituy (This is supposed to be a province-wide event in the LISTT areas because it will be difficult for the far municipalities to come here,” said Dr. Meliarazon F. Dulay, Provincial Health Officer of Benguet.
Still, she assured that every municipality conducts similar programs on healthcare especially for expecting mothers throughout the year and not just during the National Women’s Month.
According to Maridith Lay-at, one of the participants, the event is helpful in informing first time mothers like herself on how to take care of themselves and their babies during and after pregnancy.
“At least we have knowledge sa kung anong dapat gawin sa aming sarili kapag nanganak na at syempre pati sa mga babies namin… It also lessens yung gastos namin (At least we have knowledge on what we should do to ourselves when we give birth and also to our babies… It also lessens our expenses),” she explained.
