LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Student athletes from different public schools in the 13 towns of Benguet gathered at Benguet State University (BSU) to compete for this year’s Benguet Provincial Meet. The activity, which was last held three years ago and was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, opened with a parade and an opening program on April 3, 2023.
The parade showcased the athletes’ pride in their respective towns, with each delegation sporting their colorful uniforms with students showcasing their talents in music and dance. The opening program was attended by the Provincial Government officials led by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas and Congressman Eric Go Yap, as well as municipal officials.
The theme for this year’s Provincial Meet is “Sustaining Resiliency and Excellence Through Sports.” In their messages of support, Governor Diclas and Congressman Yap emphasized the importance of sports and expressed their commitment to supporting sports development in the province.
The opening day was also significant as it marked the first day of Dr. Sally B. Ullalim as the new Benguet Schools Division Superintendent. In her welcome remarks, Dr. Ullalim expressed her gratitude to all the guests, athletes, and their coaches, parents, and guardians for their support not only for sports but also for academics.
The host municipality, La Trinidad, was represented by Mayor Romeo Salda, who welcomed the delegates and guests to the said activity. BSU President Dr. Felipe S. Comila also gave his welcome remarks, motivating the athletes in their respective sports events.
The games started on April 1, 2023, and will continue until April 5, 2023. A closing program will be held on April 5 afternoon at BSU to recognize the winners and participants of the Provincial Meet. With the resumption of the Benguet Provincial Meet, the province looks forward to sustaining the tradition of promoting sports excellence among the youth. By SAP Jr.
