LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet athletes swept the Para-Athletics Competition held at the Benguet Sports Complex Oval recently, claiming 21 gold medals for the province.
They edged their opponents across multiple age and ability categories in the running, jumping, and throwing events.
In the Junior Division (16 years and above), Mitchie Liza Bio won gold in the women’s 200m dash, while Janly Jer Wayas clinched gold in the men’s 200m dash.
The province also dominated the 400m dash, securing gold in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Additional victories came in the shot put event, with Benguet athletes triumphing in both the junior boys’ and girls’ categories.
The winning streak continued in the Youth Division (15 years and below) as Danna Rhose P. Gumaad claimed gold in the girls’ 200m dash, while John Michael Guiao secured the top spot in the boys’ 200m dash. Benguet athletes also emerged victorious in both the girls’ and boys’ shot put events.
In the visually impaired categories, Benguet para-athletes showcased their skill and determination, earning gold and silver medals in both the long jump and shot put events.
Baguio City also delivered notable performances, collecting several silver and bronze medals across various categories. By Blessah Joy Manuel
