La Trinidad – Benguet National High School-Main (BeNHS-Main) commemorated its 30th founding anniversary on January 24 to 25 with the theme, “transforming lives through 30 years of partnerships”.
It’s three decades since the BeNHS-Main, formerly known as Benguet Public School, was established to cater to the educational needs of the constituents of La Trinidad, the capital town of Benguet.
The school started with an initial enrolment of 432 in 1991 which rapidly increased and at present serving more than four thousand learners, the biggest public secondary school in Benguet.
Day 1 kicked-off with an ecumenical mass in thanksgiving of the successes and development of the school through the years. This was followed by the electrifying search for Mr. and Ms. BeNHS 2020 participated in by 14 pairs of candidates from the different senior high school tracks and strands. Ruel Jay Smith, grade 12 TVL under Mr. Froilan Aroco and Shaila Pilo, Grade 12 STEM under Mrs. Olivia Picpican were crowned as Mr and Ms BeNHS 2020, respectively.
The awe-inspiring civic parade and line dance competition on the 2nd day showcased the best versions of the learners. It was heart-touching seeing the guidance-referred learners and those who struggle much in some if not several subjects participate enthusiastically, exhibiting their commendable creativity, innovativeness, skills and talents.
One of the highlights of the occasion was the giving of plaque of recognition to the service awardees. Susan Abance, Sharon Linggoden and Roxanne Tanguid for their 10 years of service; 15 years were Watchman Yangco, Ghana Wanson and Norma Singwa while Madison Kiong and Nancy Botangen for 20 and 30 years of fruitful service, correspondingly.
Meanwhile, special citation was bestowed to the persons behind the lyrics and music of the BeNHS hymn. Posthumous award to Fiscal Felix Cabading for the lyrics and Mr. Joseph Balilis for the music.
Hon. Melchor Diclas, provincial governor of Benguet, graced the occasion and he conveyed continuous support from the officialdom of Benguet.
The principal, Nestor Dalay-on, commended all the school personnel for ardently doing the tasks assigned to them without supervision, the learners for their overwhelming involvement and the external stakeholders for their boundless support.
