LUNA, Apayao – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-CAR) has released an advisory price list for key fishing commodities in designated public markets across the Cordillera region, as announced on their official Facebook page.
This price list stems from recent price monitoring activities conducted by the organization from April 29 to May 1, 2024.
In Apayao, medium-sized milkfish or bangus is listed at prices ranging from PhP200 to PhP220 per kilogram. Similarly, medium-sized tilapia sourced from outside Apayao is priced at PhP180 per kilogram. Notably, prices for imported and fresh galunggong (mackerel scad) were unavailable during the monitoring period. The report is primarily based on observations made at the Santa Marcela public market.
The objective of this initiative is to provide the public with up-to-date information on fish and fishery product prices and to analyze market trends. Meynard Domingo of BFAR-Apayao explained, “Most of the tilapia in our markets come from outside Apayao because our local production is mainly distributed within and nearby barangays. This is why they do not often reach our public markets.”
BFAR-Apayao remains vigilant against stockpiling and price manipulation by closely monitoring fish and other aquatic resource prices. The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and other relevant agencies consistently monitor supply and pricing to ensure an adequate and fair supply of fish products for consumers in Apayao.
