BAGUIO CITY – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory (BJMP-BCJMD) led by JSupt. April Rose Wandag-Ayangwa has put up a Christmas Village inside the facility where products from the different correctional facilities in the Cordillera Administrative Region are on display and up for sale.
One of the highlights of the project was the Best Christmas Village Competition. Four competitors composed of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), service providers, and BJMP personnel put up Cordilleran Christmas themed booths featuring Kalinga-Apayao, Mountain Province, Benguet, and Abra-Ifugao.
Kalinga-Apayao booth bested them all with their “Kalingang-Kalinga Apayao,” featuring recycled materials and PDL-provided services like haircut, manicure and pedicure, foot spa, showcase of Kalinga and Apayao products, rattan-made products, and native dishes. The booth was in partnership with Jesus Reigns Ministries led by Reverend Rowena Orajay.
In addition to the products, the PDL also offers dishes like batil patong, binungor, pinikpikan, dinakdakan, and kare-kare, among others, which people can enjoy either dine-in or take-out.
The BJMP–Cordillera Administrative Region’s Livelihood Exhibit and Christmas Showcase started on November 20, 2024 and will end on December 31, 2024 at the Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory. By Mileyvonne Tiamzon
