KAPANGAN, Benguet August 10 – A 49-year old incumbent punong barangay died after he reportedly hanged himself with the use of a nylon cord inside his house at barangay Pongayan her around 4:20 pm Sunday.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the alleged suicide victim as Dancy Pawil Agdawi, 40, married, native and resident of barangay Pongayan, Kapangan, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim, together with six other companions, had a drinking session at the house of his neighbour and cousin, Liza Celis Apasen.
At about 11:30 am, the victim reportedly went home without eating his lunch forcing Liza to go to the latter’s house to check him and to ask him to eat.
To her surprise, she saw the victim hanging inside his house prompting her to seek the assistance of their neighbors to seek police assistance.
Responding police operatives and elements of the scene of the crime operation (SOCO) conducted initial crime scene analysis and reportedly found no foul play in the victim’s untimely demise.
It was learned that the victim’s wife, who is in Baguio City at that time, reportedly contacted the victim in the morning and was able to reach him but when she was contacting him at around 2 pm, he never answered his mobile phone.
Probers are still ascertaining what prompted the victim to commit suicide.
