The bodies of Daniel Segundo, Florencio Indopia, and Lapihon Ayudan were recovered early this morning, June 26, 2025, from a 400-meter long tunnel in Brgy. Runruno, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya.
Two of their companions, Alfred Dulnuan and Joval Bantiyan, were rescued earlier on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The five miners entered the tunnel on the night of June 23 and were trapped inside due to poisonous gas and lack of oxygen.
During the search and rescue operation, volunteer rescuer John Philip Guinihid died.
Brgy. Captain John Babliing stated that the retrieval operation ended at around 2 am, after the bodies were brought out.
The rescue operation was carried out with the help of the Runruno community, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, FCF Minerals Corp., OceanaGold Philippines, Inc., BLGU, MLGU, and others.
