BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) awarded cash prizes and Certificates of Recognition to the winners of the first-ever Barangay Disaster Resilience Quiz Bee hosted by the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to culminate the 36th National Disaster Resilience Month celebration in July.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Johanna Padaen handed over the awards to the winners during Monday’s Flag Raising Ceremony on August 5, 2024, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
The Riverside Zone, comprising Barangays Tocucan, Talubin, Can-eo, and Bayyo, as the champion, received P7,000 from the Bontoc LGU and an additional P2,000 from Mayor Tudlong.
The ALBAGO Zone including Barangays Alab Proper, Alab Oriente, Balili, and Gonogon, came as a first runner and received P6,000.00, while the Upland Zone (Barangays Mainit, Guina-ang, Maligcong, and Dalican) that landed as second runner up was handed over with a cash prize of P5,000.
The Central Zone covering Barangays Bontoc Ili, Poblacion, Samoki, and Caluttit got the third runner-up and was given a cash prize of P4,000.
Mayor Tudlong commended the barangays for their active participation in the quiz bee adding that each participant has shown remarkable dedication and knowledge, which is crucial for effective disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).
“The event highlights the importance of DRRM at the community level. The active participation of the barangays and the dedication of the participants are commendable, showcasing their commitment to building a resilient and prepared community,” Tudlong added.
It is to be noted that the Barangay Disaster Resilience Quiz Bee was held on July 30, 2024, of which the questions centred on Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRRM) and Management and the Incident Command System (ICS). The participants underwent the CBDRRM Training and ICS Executive Course, both conducted by the Bontoc LGU through the MDRRMO. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
