BONTOC, Mountain Province – The municipal government recognized the winners of the search for the Most Functional Barangay Nutrition Council (BNC) through the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation-Protocol (MELLPI-Pro) Tool Evaluation.
The MELLPI-Pro is designed to monitor and evaluate the performance of local governments and local nutrition focal points (LNFPs) in promoting nutrition security vis-à-vis nutrition outcomes. Thus, the awarding aimed to recognize the efforts of local communities in advancing nutrition and well-being.
Barangay Caneo secured the top position with a score of 78.78%, earning them a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of PhP5, 000.
Barangay Nutrition Council of Samoki came in second place with a score of 75.80%, receiving a Certificate of Recognition and a PhP3, 000 cash prize.
Dalican BNC came in third place with a rating of 73.88%, garnering a Certificate of Recognition and PhP2, 000 in cash.
The awards were handed over by Vice Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Venous Faith Cofulan to the winners represented by their respective Punong Barangay during the Flag Raising Ceremony on July 16, 2024, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
On behalf of Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., Vice Mayor Kabluyen lauded the dedication of the barangay governments in promoting nutrition and well-being within their communities, highlighting the importance of nutrition education and community engagement in creating healthier and thriving localities.
It is to be noted that in the previous months, members of the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) have been going around the barangays to conduct assessment, evaluation, and validation of the functionality of all the barangay nutrition councils in the municipality using the MELLPI-Pro Tool.
This initiative is one of the lined-up activities of the municipal government through the MNC, with the Municipal Health Office headed by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez taking the lead in observance of Nutrition Month this July. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
