BONTOC, Mountain Province – In a bid to enhance the well-being of the younger generation and promote a healthier community, the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) took proactive steps to engage students and parents in an insightful session focusing on various aspects of health and development.
This is through the collaborative efforts of the Population Development Office, Municipal Health Office (MHO), and the Department of Health (DOH) that reached out to the learners in Guina-ang National High School (NHS) on August 16, 2024. The initiative primarily targeted Grade 7 and Grade 8 learne learners, along with their parents. The activity was under the program of the Population Development Office and tapped resource speakers from partner offices including the MHO and DOH.
Nurse II Aracelle Aguilba conducted a session on Adolescent Reproductive Health, providing valuable information to the participants on healthy choices and responsible decision-making.
Following this, Nurse I Dixi Jane Lingbanan Kiniway shed light on the significance of mental health, guiding discussions on identifying mental health challenges and advocating for early intervention and support.
Further, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Venous Faith Cofulan underscored the importance of a balanced diet for optimal growth and development, emphasizing the role of nutrition in combating malnutrition and encouraging healthy eating habits among the students.
Mialex Jaena addressed the learners on dengue prevention, symptoms, and available treatment options, equipping them with the knowledge to safeguard their health.

In addition to the informative sessions, the personnel from the respective offices conducted deworming activities and monitored the students’ height and weight, ensuring comprehensive health assessments and interventions for the young learners. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
